Rennbericht 2003 / 04 Dijon
Surprise, Surprise
With a sensational comeback the former champions Allen Lloyd / Gerry Wainwright (GB) started in the FiA-TC season 2003. In Dijon-Prenois they led the one-hour-race up to the last metres in front of Kerry Michael / Nick Stagg (GB) in a Ford Lotus Cortina. But on the finish line the Cortina passed the Mustang out of the slipstream. Michael / Stagg, who finished third in Austria, won the fourth round of the FiA-TC 0,02 seconds ahead of Lloyd / Wainwright. One lap behind followed Jon Shipman / Mark Hales (GB) in the fastest Alfa Romeo GTA.
Of 29 historic tin-tops, that started on the track in the Bourgogne, 22 passed the chequered flag. Only in the fifth position of their class Bo Warmenius / Gunnar Turebrand (S) finished the race. The leading team in the FiA-TC lost one lap in the pit lane as they tried to benefit from a safety car phase, when they made their mandatory pit stop in this time. But the light at the pit lane exit remained red for one lap.
The same handicap had Chris Sanders / Nick Whale (GB) in their Lotus Cortina. Sanders performed the fastest lap of the race but could not make up the lost lap as well as the Gustavssons in their Cortina. Claude Boissy / Alain Miran (F) won the 1,3 litre-class with a Mini Cooper S, the Austrians Alex Ellinger / Oliver Heschl-Gillespie the 2,5 litre-class in a BMW 1800ti.
The fourth race of FiA-TC season offered no birthday present for Bo Warmenius, who became 50 years old at the Dijon weekend. But his collegues of FiA-TC and FIA-GTC gave a big paddock party in the FiA-Welcome-Tent till 2 o´clock in the morning.
