Racereport 2003 / 08 Estoril
Bound Southwards !!
The FIA-GTC-TC’76 closed its premier season on the most southern race course of our calendar. Two famous drivers started for the first time this season in Estoril. The local matador, Jorge Ferreira came up to the expectations of his position on the 4,18-km long race course. The local matador won both races with his Ford Escort RS in the Portuguese seaside resort.
Ex-DTM-Professional Altfrid Heger (D), twice winner of the 24-Hour-Race of Spa-Francorchamps (B) and first overall winner of the Porsche Super Cup (1993), won sensationally. He celebrated his first start in the Series in a Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6,3. The vehicle refiner and AMG racing car builder caused a great sensation during the end of the Sixties with his Touring Car model.
Wolfgang Schachinger (A) secured with two class wins in his Alpina-BMW 3,0 CSL the overall victory in the premier season of the FIA-GTC-TC’76. In the GTs built up to 1976, Thomas Verhoeven (D) was the overall winner in his Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 3.0.
In the second race, Carlos Santos (P) could present himself very well with his Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 3.0, after he fell back to the fifth position in the first race due to pure bad luck. Santos came in second behind his fellow countryman Ferreira and before FIA-GTC-TC’76-Champion Wolfgang Schachinger.
