Jim Clark Revival with great sports and lots of visitors

Successful Racing Weekend at the Hockenheimring

(Hockenheim, 30. April 2006) Four days of great motor sports with over 350 starters, lots of sunshine during the weekend and 18 200 visitors – amongst whom there were prominent spectactors like the former leading racing drivers like Hubert Hahne and Jochen Mass: The second Jim Clark Revival held in memory of the Scottish Lotus driver and two times World Champion at the Hockenheimring offered historic – and together with the Recaro Formel 3 Cup modern as well – pure motor sports. In addition a “German record” for the argest rolling Automobile Museum was set as well.

Just over 600 classic cars – from the extremely scarce rarities from the wenties to the more conservative family saloons of the fifties and the sixties right up to the roaring muscle cars of the seventies – drove a full round on the Grand-Prix-Course of the Hockenheimring on Saturday evening. The Zimekeepers counted exactly 613 historic cars ranging from Alfa Romeo up to Zagato. But 988 vehicles were needed for an entry into the Guinness Book of World Records. Therefore it just became a German record. Now the world record with over 1000 historic cars must be set during the third Jim Clark Revival which will be held end of April 2007.

The Jim Clark Revival offered exciting motor sports in 18 races with competitors from 28 (!) nations from the Formula Junior to classical GT- and Touring cars (classification points for the official championships of the FiA were awarded for these categories), the powerful big bangers of the Supersports with sometimes over 8 litres cubic capacity, the historic Formula 2 and Formula 1 racing cars right up to the Championship races of the current Recaro Formel 3 Cups (Winners: Joey Foster and Nico Hülkenberg).

The most spectacular performance of the whole weekend was presented by Swiss driver Urs Eberhardt in a Lotus 27 with a sensational hot pursuit in remembrance of Jim Clark who had met with a fatal accident in Hockenheim on 7. April 1968 during a Formula 2 race. After being pushed rudely to the side of the track by a rival in the first round, he had to join back the race from 16th position and thereafter overtook all competitors to secure the win after all.

The fastest race lap of the weekend was driven by Christian Gläsel in a Brabham BT49D in 1.37,770 minutes. The German also won the race for the historic Grand Prix Cars of the seventies and the eighties with his Ex-Riccardo-Patrese-Car.

The date for the Jim Clark Revival 2007 has been fixed and will take place from April 23 to 29. During this race week, the 75th anniversary of the Hockenheimring will be celebrated.
