FIA-GTC-TC’76: A defect robs Peter Mücke of his victory in his Ex-Ford-Company Capri
Peter Richrath (D) Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 3.0 |
Peter Richrath (D) started with his Porsche from the pole position in the third event of the season. The winner of Hockenheim and Mizano, Patrick Gerling (CH) already had problems with his Chevrolet Corvette during the training session. He did a spin and collided with Ingo Zeitz in his Porsche Carrera RSR. Whilst Zeitz had return home, Gerling could at least participate in the race. The Swiss started a chase with his Corvette from the last row and came right up to the 3rd. position at the front.
Peter Mücke Ex-Werks-Ford Capri RS 3400 |
At the top Peter Mücke in an Ex-Ford-Company Capri RS 3400 shot off up and away. Nobody was able to follow the Berliner who, in the meantime, has been promoted to a DTM-Teamchief. But in the second half of the race, the V6-engine started making more and more terrible noises. Mücke fell back and was glad to have even crossed the finishing line – at least as the leader in the Touring Class classification. “Something was wrong with the ignition,” said the lightly frustrated Mücke after the race.
Dr. Armin Zumtobel (A) Porsche 906 Carrera 6 |
Dr. Armin Zumtobel (A) in a Porsche 906 Carrera 6 and Peter Richrath overtook the worn out Capri in just one round. In the next lap, Richrath shot pass Zumtobel and defended the lead right up to the finishing line. The time difference to Zumtobel was 7,5 seconds. Behind the leading duo and Gerling’s Corvette, Thomas Verhoeven (D) crossed the finishing line with a borrowed Porsche Carrera RSR from Derkum Motorsport. This was the car in which Klaus Ludwig, Uwe Alzen and Peter Dumbreck had won the 500-Kilometre-Race which had been held during the 24-Hour-Race.
Lindberg, Henrik (DK) De Tomaso Pantera | |
Dr. Helmut Stein (D) Ex-Wooding-Ford Escort RS |
“The team had loaned me the car because my own car was not ready on time,” last year’s GT-Champion reported. “I especially did not want to damage anything.” Claus Damgaard and Henrik Lindberg with their De Tomaso Pantera would have liked to follow this aim as well but they both had to retire prematurely after putting up a wonderful show. The Italien sportsmen with the American V8-Ford-Engine though are getting more and more into the swing this season.
In the Touring Cars, Kerry Michael (GB) in a Ford Escort TC secured the 2nd. position before Dr. Helmut Stein (D) in the Ex-Wooding-Ford Escort RS. Wolfgang Schachinger did not even start in the race after experiencing engine problems with his BMW 3,5 CSL during the qualifying session.
