In the second last 2005 FIA Championship weekend on the Formula-1-Course of Spa-Francorchamps, the defending champion Dieter-Karl Anton (A) secured with two class wins the maximum number of points.

In accordance with the 40th. Jubilee year of Alfa Romeo GTA, the Austrian even secured in the first race the overall win over the “father-and–son-team” Mikael and Calle Gustavsson (S) in their Ford Lotus Cortina. As the best pilot of the larger classes for cars over 2,5 litres capacity class, Reinhold Gröpper (D) in a Ford Mustang attained the first position.

All in all 32 race cars started in the FIA-TC’65 as part of the 6-Hours-Race of Spa on the 6,976 kilometre long Ardennes-roller coaster. Six Mini Cooper S ensured that there was a strong representation of classes up to 1,3 litres capacity class. But Niklas Johansson’s orange-coloured small car-rocket was not to be stopped. The Swede developed a supernatural speed on the race course and also secured the fastest time of the class by far. Ian Cox / Allen Tice (GB) were left standing in the rain.

The second race was held together with the competitors of the FIA-GTC’65 (more than 60 starters). Hereby, Dieter Karl Anton (A) only achieved the sixth position in the Touring Car overall classification. A thrilling fight for the top position developed between Reinhold Gröpper (D) in a Ford Mustang and Fritz Vogel (CH) in a Ford Falcon Sprint. But in the end the Swiss had to give way with a time difference of 8,2 seconds. “Gröpper is stronger on the brakes,” Vogel explained as to why he had to make do with the silver position in the end.

The leading Champion, Dieter Karl Anton banished the Gustavssons and Matthias Oertz / Marco Theil (both D) in another Alfa Romeo to the lower positions. His Royal Highness Prince Joachim of Denmark in a Ford Lotus Cortina came in behind them. “This was my first race on such a significant course. I am definitely returning next year to participate in more FIA-TC’65 races, the 36-year-old enthusiastically promised.
