The “silver arrow” with four doors was one of the biggest eye-catchers in the Formula-1 drivers’ paddock of Spa-Francorchamps. It was almost 35 years ago that such a Mercedes 300 SEL 6.3 was sent in to compete in the 24-Hours-Race at the same place. “The car offers a great fascination,” said Altfrid Heger. The former racing professional started for the second time in an event of the FIA Historic Championship after Estoril 2004 with his powerful Touring Car which had been built up in 5 years. With his Mercedes, he was part of the largest starting grid of 30 cars in the FIA-GTC-TC’76 of the 2005 season.

Heger won the Touring Car grading with his “colossus” and attained the seventh overall position behind Hendrik Lindberg (D) in his De Tomaso Pantera when he crossed the finishing line. Followed by Dr Helmut Stein (D) in his ex-Wooding Ford Escort RS. Reinhold Gröpper attained with his Ford Mustang Boss 302 the fourth position in the Touring Cars grading. With his second position in the class behind Heger, he collected enough points to win the Championship of Touring Cars up to 1971.

In the GT top positions, Patrick Gerling (CH) hurried in the direction of the Championship in the Chevrolet Corvette of the Malibu-Racing-Team. The Swiss took advantage of Claus Damgaard’s spin in his De Tomaso Pantera in the first round even. Although the Dane clearly marked up the faster lap times but he missed out on the overall win by one second after a long lean period. Peter Richrath (D) secured the third position in his Porsche Carrera RSR as the best Porsche pilot.

Peter Mücke (D) was also unlucky. Although the DTM and F3-Team Chief did not manage to cross the finishing line with his ex-works Ford Capri RS, he was graded after all.
