The FIA Cup for Historic GT-Cars (FIA-GTC’65) started off the new season with a large field of 35 cars. In his Elva GT160-Buick, Stefano Rosina (I) celebrated souveranely two Starting-Finishing Line wins. But his pursuers ensured thrilling fights for the top positions in both races, which each lasted 30 minutes.

Although Andre Bailly (F) with his AC Cobra could win the fight for second position in the first race, he had to start from the end of the starting field in the second race after a driving mistake. In spite of racing the fastest race round, the Frenchman missed a repeat placement on the podium with his fourth position.

Sean Walker (GB) secured the 3rd. position in his “Gold Bug”- Lotus Elan 26R. The Brit is Ian Walker’s son, who had driven this gold-coloured Elan successfully in the Sixties. Amongst the other company drivers, Jim Clark had also started in a “Gold Bug”-Elan. In the GT-Race held during the Grand-Prix-Formula-1 of England in 1964 in Silverstone, the Formula-1-World Champion won in a Lotus entered by Walker’s father before Sir John Whitmore. In the FIA-GTC’65 race held during the Jim-Clark Revival, Sean Walker secured the 2nd. position in Race 2 and the 3rd. position in Race 1.

Ian Cox wins in Big Healey in the Categorie up to 1961.

Dr. Armin Zumtobel

In the 1,6 litre class, he sent the FIA-GTC’65-Champion, Bo Warmenius (S) in his Lotus Elan to the 2nd. position both times. While Hans-Jürgen Malsbenden (D) in his Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray from the Total Performance-Team had to let himself be beaten in both races in the class over 2,5 litres, Peter Dunn (GB) in his lightweight Marcos 1800 GT was the “dominator” in the 2,5 litre class. He won both races and ranks in 6th. place in the overall class. Dr. Armin Zumtobel (A) fought bravely with his Porsche 911 against the Marcos-Armada but due to the regulations regarding the Marcos, did not have much of a chance though with his heavier (ca. 400 kg) GT. The Porsche driver at least managed to finish up 3rd. in his class in the Race 2 after coming in 4th. in Race 1.

In the Category E of the older cars up to 1961, Ian Cox (GB) dominated the scene as expected in his Austin Healey 300. His countryman Peter Aylett in his Diva GT came in 2nd. before Walter Antonacci (I) in his Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Veloce. FIA-GTC’65 last year’s Champion of this class, Udo Voßhenrich (D) was missing of all places in his “home race” because his Lotus Elite was not ready in time.
