Just shortly after the start of the first 30-minute race, the finals weekend was already over for the Championship favourite, Hans-Jürgen Malsbenden. The drive shaft of the Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray broke and damaged amongst other parts, the tank as well. The Total Performance team tried its best to make the Corvette road-worthy again. But in the end, Torsten Schwarz’ team had to admit that the damage could not be completely repaired.

In a Lotus Elan, Bo Warmenius (S) secured the rank of the best GT with his third overall placement behind a sovereign Leo Voyazides (GB) in a Ford GT 40 and Stefano Rosina (I) in his Elva GT 160-Buick, both GTP cars. But the Swede outdistanced the fast French AC Cobra, driven by Bernard Peruch and Andre Bailly. In the class of 2,5 litre cubic capacity class, Peter Dunn (GB) secured in his Marcos 1800 GT the class win with his seventh overall position before his fellow countrymen and model colleagues Richard Styles and Peter Thompson.

In the class of the oldest and smallest GT, last year’s Champion, Udo Voßhenrich (D) came roaring back with his Lotus Elite and won before his model colleague Reimer Stöhrmann (D), who was followed closely by Walter Antonacci (I) in his Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider. But in the second race, Antonacci turned the tables and crossed the finishing line before Stöhrmann. Although Udo Voßhenrich secured the class win as distinctly as in the first race, Reimer Stöhrmann won the Championship title in the FIA-GTC’65 for cars built up to 1961 (Period E).

In the second race, Voyazides showed a similar sovereign performance as in the first race and won the full score by being 12 seconds ahead of a very strong Andre Bailly (F) in his AC Cobra. “The car was totally different today,” reported a very happy Bailly after his “home race”. He banished his countryman Bernard Peruch to the third position in the overall classification. The second of the first race, Stefano Rosina had to retire with his Elva after only 2 laps.

Bo Warmenius had to fight hard for the fourth position. He crossed the finishing line with a 2-second lead over Michael Menden (D) with his Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray. The second-placed in the 1,6-litre class, Jürg Schwendimann (CH) also put up a strong performance. After having to retire with his Lotus Elan in the first race, he secured the sixth position in the overall classification after a hot pursuit before Wolfgang Schachinger in his Chevrolet Corvette.

Richard Styles won the duell of the lightweigth GT of England before Peter Thompson. Dr Armin Zumtobel achieved the third position in the class. It was not possible for approx. 400 kilogramme-heavier Porsche 911 to achieve more.
